Yellowstone National Park - record visitors in June
According to park officials Yellowstone National park had more than 612,000 visitors in the month of June. This is about 2,500 more people than June of last year. Yellowstone has had close to a million visitors this year and could set a record for the number of visitors in a year in 2008.

There are several things that you can do you do if you want to avoid the mass of people at Yellowstone? Visit in the off peak seasons. Yellowstone is most crowded May through September. Yellowstone is spectacular in the fall, winter and spring. No time of year is a bad time to visit Yellowstone.

Feeling a little more adventurous? Try some backpacking or day hikes on some of the less traveled trails. You can reserve backcountry sites in advance for $20 regardless of the number of nights you are camping. You can apply only by mail or in person.

When traveling in the backcountry be smart and learn about bear safety before you go. The Yellowstone website has good information regarding bear safety.

Don't let the crowds scare you away, go to Yellowstone National park and have a great time.
Be safe this 4th of July
If you are going to visit one of your state or national parks leave the fireworks at home. Posession or use of fireworks are always illegal in national forests, national parks and on public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This includes all fireworks that may be legal in your area.

Fireworks are illegal in state parks as well. If you have any questions check with your state park before you leave.

This is especially important in places like California where the risk of forest fires is very high.
Asian Emerald Ash Borer Quarantine
The United States Department of Agriculture has a quarantine on firewood from Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. For more details see the following websites, emeraldashborer.info and invasivespeciesinfo.gov. You should not take wood from these state to state parks or national parks.
Glacier National Park Going-To-The-Sun Road open
The Going-To-The-Sun road that crosses Glacier National park from East to West is now open the entire distance. The road had been closed cue to the snow storm during the middle of June. There could still be delays driving the road as there will be road construction going on.
